Tom Giesbers is co-owner and technical director at Oosthuis, specialists in prefab houses. Together with his team, he carries out projects where a simple customer sketch is eventually transformed into a complete house, all in their hall in Doetinchem! EcoDim's products may also play a role in these projects. We spoke to Tom about this!

Oosthuis, customised prefab houses

Oosthuis is active in prefab housing construction. The company employs about 20 people. Lines of communication are short, Tom points out: "We have short lines of communication with the customer, the people on the shop floor and the suppliers. We don't like different layers of management. Our customers like that too".

The prefab houses are produced as completely as possible in the hall in Doetinchem. Among other things, the kitchen, bathroom and even the wallpaper are already installed in the house here. Tom says that his clients can often move into the houses as soon as possible after completion: "We often place the house on Tuesdays, usually we get a message from the clients as early as Saturday that they have moved over". Oosthuis stands out in the customisation they provide. "Clients often come with a simple sketch, we develop this into a drawing after several conversations, we make it exactly the way the client wants it." indicates Tom.

In terms of materials, Oosthuis does work with a number of standards, including EcoDim's LED dimmers and recessed spotlights.

The search for the right downlight

Meanwhile, Oosthuis has been installing the ECO-DIM.01 LED dimmer in combination with warm white LED downlights for quite some time now. At first, this was not the case: "At first, we had a very standard type of spotlight ordered somewhere online. The light from these spotlights was not natural and warm". Tom also says that the spotlight consisted of many separate parts and the combination with the dimmer they were using at the time was not optimal.

After trying out yet another set of options, Tom ended up at EcoDim. "Mark-Jan sent us a message via LinkedIn, besides, we like working with local suppliers".

A godsend for prefab houses

Tom is satisfied with the recessed spotlights and dimmer. For instance, he considers it a great advantage that they are splash-proof (IP54): "For us, it is ideal that we can use the spotlights anywhere. Before, we had different supplies for indoor and outdoor use, for example. Now we have one spotlight that can be used everywhere".

He further praises the spotlight's overall performance: "We have never had any failures. As a result, we don't have to service it afterwards, which saves us time. We did have this several times with other spots".

When we ask if Tom has experienced any disadvantages to the combination between the dimmer and spotlights, he says that the spotlights sometimes blink, yet this is often solved as quickly: "This is a matter of adjusting with the MIN potentiometer on the dimmer. After this, it is also solved, so it works well." Explains Tom.

"Before this, we had different supplies for indoor and outdoor, for example. Now we have one spotlight that can be used everywhere".

In terms of cover material, Oosthuis uses PEHA as standard on the ECO-DIM.01. If a customer really wants a different brand of cover material, this is possible if required.

Cooperation

Finally, Tom appreciates the cooperation: "We never have to wait long for products, to my knowledge EcoDim always has everything neatly in stock".

He also sees similarities between Oosthuis and EcoDim: "I like the fact that you are a similar company: A fairly young team, and a flat organisation. A big plus is that you guys move quickly when we need something quickly".

Tom shows his appreciation at the end of the conversation: "I have already regularly recommended EcoDim to others, I am very satisfied with the company and its products"!
